Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros)
About 14cm tall, rust on tail and rump. Otherwise males are ash-gray and black, with white wing patch.
Females are plain gray-brown, without white in the wings. The Black Redstarts quick ducks of head and
body are robin-like, and its tail is often flicked. The nest is usually found in wall and roof niches.
We have a nest for years in our roof dormer, usually the second brood in early summer.
