The Tister Bauernmoor (Farmers Moore of Tiste) is a nature reserve in the district of
Rotenburg (south of Hamburg). Approximately one third of the total area was waterlogged after the peat.
This area is now resting, breeding and foraging area for many bird species. In late autumn several thousand cranes
rest here in the shallow water areas before they are heading to their winter quarters. Meanwhile, some cranes even breed
in the bog and raise their youngsters from the April to August.
Other typical species in addition to the crane are gray geese, teals, sea eagles, harriers, marsh frogs,
Adders and Nordic leuccorhinia. You can also find the following plants: peat moss, cotton grass,
Leaved heath, sundews, bog myrtle, purple moor grass, bog birch and Scots pines.
