Travel Report Sulawesi in April 2017

Once again we took the flight from Singapore Airlines to Manado. Roland wanted to deal with the macro photography with his new camera equipment and we always feel very comfortable in Sulawesi.

The first week we spent with our dear friends from the Kungkungan Bay Resort. We had registered already in advance there and dived again with our guide Enal. Since the resort was not booked out, we were upgraded to a beachfront villa. In the first few days it was a lot of rain, which of course had also had an effect on the visibility under water. However, the rain clouds are always very fast.

The famous dive sites Jahir, Nudi Falls, Retak Larry, Serena Patah ...... always offer new surprises, in addition to the many small things in the dark lava sand, there are always coral reefs with an incredible variety of creatures.

After eight days we had to say good-bye to the KBR and were taken to Manado, where we took a boot to Bunaken to make an extra stop for us in a new hotel, the Oasis. After an exclusive visit we were picked up there by the dive boat of the Siladen Resort and brought to the island with the same name.

Siladen is located in the heart of the famous Bunaken National Park. The Siladen Resort and Spa is located on the west side of the island, offering scenic sunsets with views of the volcano Manado Tua. Bunaken is known for its spectacular drop-offs. Colorful corals, many fish and also turtles in large numbers are to be found at almost every dive. The dive sites are mostly accessible by relatively short boat rides.

The resort itself was very good. It offers high standard and an international cuisine with high quality. The resort is run by Ana and Miguel, who are always present and provide a very personal service. Also the spa we highly recommend, here massage, aromatherapy and nail care is offered.

During our presence, a sea turtle placed 98 eggs in the sand next to the diving base. This nesting site was immediately protected by the installation of a fence. Also a Sunbird built several nests with its partner in the very beautiful garden area.

Conclusion: We would repeat this combination Bunaken / Lembeh at any time, but the next time the transfer would be organized by water (although not a cheap solution). Both resorts we highly recommend and look forward to a reunion!
